Wellbeing and Recovery Partnership
'[Recovery is] a deeply personal, unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills and roles. It is a way of living a satisfying, hopeful and contributing life, even with the limitations caused by illness. Recovery involves the development of new meaning and purpose in one’s life as one grows beyond the catastrophic effects of mental illness...'
(Anthony, 1993 – From the Sainsbury Centre (2008): Making Recovery a Reality)
The Wellbeing and Recovery Partnership (WaRP) is provided by the Dorset Mental Health Forum (DMHF), Dorset Community Health Services (DCHS) and Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust (DHUFT).
The partnership was first established in West Dorset between DCHS and the DMHF during 2009. DHUFT formally joined in December 2010. It was at this time we made the service available across the whole of Dorset.
The Annual Report 2010 - 11 and executive summary explains in further detail how the partnership is working to improve mental health for the people in Dorset.
Progress so far…
Our main aim is culture change in Dorset, and this is happening:
- many staff have embraced the principles of recovery and feel hopeful, motivated and inspired about their role in future service delivery
- people with lived experience are increasingly feeling that their expertise is valued and that they have a lead part to play in the shaping of services. This is empowering, validating and rewarding. It gives individuals hope, meaning and purpose in their own recovery journeys
- working in partnership with people with lived experience within mental health services is challenging stigma and raising everyone’s expectations of what we can achieve.
