Yeatman Community Hospital

From 1 July 2011, Dorset Primary Care Trust has transferred the management of community based health services (including those detailed on this web page) to Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust.

Visiting to all Community Hospitals is 15:00 – 16:30 and 18:30 – 20:00hrs.

It is also requested that only two visitors per bed at any time.

The Ward Manger will be able to make any discretionary exceptions for relatives who wish to give assistance to patients eating or for patients who are unwell.

The Willows Intermediate Care Centre

Is the inpatient service for Sherborne. Referrals are accepted from all locations depending on individual circumstances.

The Willows provides:

  • a 40-bed unit for men and women in single-sex rooms for one, two or four patients
  • 24-hour health care
  • assessment and rehabilitation following early and short-term medical/surgical conditions
  • transfer from Yeovil District Hospital within five days for patients recovering from orthopaedic surgery
  • overnight care for some patients who have have attended the Castleton Day Surgery Unit
  • care for the terminally ill
  • Jean King Suite for patients and families

Visiting is between 2pm and 8pm. The times are restricted to provide a suitable environment for recovery.

Patient meal times are also protected. If these times are difficult for relatives or carers, other times may be arranged with the nurse in charge.

Minor Injuries Unit (MIU)

The minor injuries unit is within The Willows, but is run as a separate department.

Stewart Lodge

  • nine inpatient beds for adult patients with functional mental health problems
  • a base for the older people's mental health community team and up to 10 day hospital places.

Hotel Services

Provide all aspects of housekeeping requirements. The catering department provide a 24-hour service for inpatients, and is open from 8am to 5.30pm for staff and visitors. Varied home-cooked menus are based on the better hospital food guidelines. A vending machine is provided for out of hours.

Yeatman Community Hospital Day Hospital and Outpatients

Day Surgery (Theatre and Castleton Day Unit) is managed by East Somerset NHS Trust. The unit provides day and limited planned short-stay surgery in ophthalmology, general surgery, orthopaedics, gastroenterology and urology.

Outpatients

The outpatients department provides a service for people in the Sherborne and surrounding area. Referrals are made from GPs or consultants at the hospital.

Yeatman Community Hospital X-Ray Department and Therapies

X-Ray and ultra-sound Facilities

Are available for x-ray and ultrasound examinations and referral from minor injuries, GP, outpatient and inpatient departments.

X-ray hours of opening are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. Ultrasound is Monday, Wednesday and Thursday by appointment.

Physiotherapy

Is on the ground floor of the main hospital building. Treatment is provided in the department, on the wards and is available at some GP surgeries and in the community at the patients' home.

The team access physical conditions and then teach, advise and encourage patients to overcome a physical problem. Above all, physiotherapy staff aim to help patients help themselves.

Hours of opening are:

Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday: 8.30am - 5pm

Wednesday: 8.30am - 4.30pm

Closed Saturday/Sunday and bank holidays

Occupational Therapy

Provides rehabilitation for people to maintain or regain their independence following an illness or accident. This service is provided to patients within the hospital or in their own homes.

Community Rehabilitation Team

This consists of a small clinical team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, rehabilitation nurses and rehabilitation assistants who assess and treat people over 65 in their own home.
