As well as daily medical input, consultants and their teams carry out weekly reviews. Patients and carers are actively encouraged to participate in care planning, through home visits and community care assessments.

  • chaplain
  • hairdressing
  • League of Friends
  • library
  • volunteers
  • PAT dog scheme

The wards

Fayrewood ward has single and twin bedded accommodation. A number have en-suite facilities.

Canford ward has single and multiple bedded accommodations and takes patients who need hospital care, but not necessarily an acute hospital bed. Patients can be admitted directly from home with referrals from any health professional to the nurse practitioner on duty.

Respite care is available on a limited basis through a consultant referral.

The environment is homely with both television and quiet areas. Both wards have a dining room where the three main meals of the day are served. Special care is taken with menus making all meals healthy and nutritious. Special dietary requirements are discussed on an individual basis. Snacks are available at all times. Social activities are undertaken both on the wards and also in the activities department.

We are fortunate to have a hairdresser who visits weekly. We also have a weekly multi-denominational service.

Activities Department

This is a non clinical department. We encourage the ward patients to take part in diversionary activities of their choice. All requests are taken into consideration. There is a varied programme during the week. This consists of:

  • flower arranging
  • whist drive
  • manicures
  • quizzes
  • various board games
  • crosswords
  • proverbs
  • and the very popular, News Of The Week.

All are involved in the planting of the summer bedding on the patio. Those people that are unable to plant in the tubs are asked to choose the colours for each container.

Tea and coffee is served at all sessions. Patient’s relatives are very welcome to join in the activities.

The department is very grateful to the dedicated team of volunteers who give their time to support the patients and help them on their road to recovery.
