School Nursing

The school nursing service includes teams of qualified nurses, nursery nurses and support workers who have a special interest in working with young people.

The school nurses are responsible for school aged children and they visit schools regularly to offer health assessments, health advice, immunisations and other services. They also work with schools to weigh and measure Reception and Year 6 children as part of the National Child Measurement Programme.

All mainstream local schools have a named school nurse. The service provides a link school nurse for independent schools.

Accessing the service

Any agency can refer to the service with the child and families’ permission and young people can directly access the service.
