Accessing the service
Access for pre school children is currently through their health visitor; pre-school; community paediatrician; GP or other professional. Access for school children is through their school; GP; community paediatrician; other professional such as Educational Psychologist
What can I expect after the referral has been made?
The current maximum wait that the PCT sets is 13 weeks from receipt of referral to appointment date. The referral is acknowledged to parents by letter and they will be invited to attend an appointment in:
- clinic if a pre-school child
- clinic or school for school age children
What happens if a need for Speech and Language Therapy is identified?
Depending on the outcome of the assessment, options for ongoing intervention will be discussed. These could take a variety of formats including clinic therapy sessions, home visits, nursery visits, and school based programmes.
