Breastfeeding
Dorset Breastfeeding – helping more mothers to breastfeed for longer
NHS Dorset has been working in partnership with local health providers, voluntary groups and local businesses to support breastfeeding in the community. More Dorset mothers are now starting - and continuing – to breastfeed.
Baby Friendly Dorset
All hospitals that provide maternity care for Dorset women are working towards or have gained Baby Friendly Accreditation (BFI). Dorset County Hospital, Bournemouth Hospital, Salisbury and Yeovil maternity units have all achieved full accreditation. Poole maternity unit is at level 1.
This means that you can be assured of good breastfeeding advice and support in feeding your baby.
Dorset Breastfeeding Peer Support Service
Volunteer. Peer supporters provide mother-to mother support to women in their local communities. We have 18 breastfeeding groups in Dorset all supported by Real Baby Milk (CIC). These groups are available for all families and aim to encourage breastfeeding, giving practical support, and a warm welcome to new mothers. Most groups are run in Children centre’s and are linked with a Health Visitor or Midwife support. Some groups are provided in local venues.

Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme
We have lots of premises in Dorset signed up to our Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme. Most venues in Dorset will support breastfeeding but those signed up to the scheme will display a logo on their window or door to make you extra welcome. For more information visit http://www.realbabymilk.org/dorset.
