Telehealth

Telehealth allows people to monitor their own health by using devices at home. These devices can monitor a number of things including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and weight. Readings are taken and the information is sent through the telephone line to a central secure data point for monitoring.

There is evidence that telehealth provides more independence and control for patients managing their condition. It also allows more freedom for patients and their carers as some routine hospital and GP visits are unnecessary. This can also save time for health care staff who may not need to visit as often but can still monitor their patients’ condition.

It is proposed to introduce telehealth for people in Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset and we are engaging with a number of people about the shape of this service before we progress to implementation. In this first phase we are targeting people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and with chronic heart failure.

A number of events have been held across the area and we are looking for volunteers to work with us to help shape the service for the future.
