NHS Dorset is committed to ensuring that you and your local community are involved in the redesign of existing local health services and the development of new ones.

Making sure that decisions we take reflect what patients and the public want is a key priority for us and supports our strategic aim of 'A Healthier Dorset'.

Before we can make decisions affecting the planning and or delivery of health services we have a legal duty to involve patients and public

We are growing and developing a strong local community health network to enable you to have your say and be involved in decisions about the planning and delivery of your local health services. Together with others from your local community, you can make a difference to the health services you and others use.
We work with:

  • patients
  • carers
  • voluntary sector
  • health networks
  • NHS colleagues
  • communities and individuals
  • partner organisations.

This ensures that the needs, priorities and aspirations of the local population have the opportunity to influence the quality and delivery of our services.

Volunteering

To work with us in the Involvement Team and make your views count in shaping your health services join the Dorset Health Network for further information.

You can volunteer in your community to help shape a healthier Dorset.
Our Involvement Team project support officers will help to build supportive communities by:

  • working to support the introduction and development of patient and public involvement groups within primary care
  • stimulating the growth of volunteer schemes offering support to vulnerable members of our communities
  • working with statutory and volunteer organisations to promote self support and self care across Dorset
  • offer mentoring and training to volunteer groups

You may like to get involved with the work of your GP surgery, or to volunteer to support elderly or vulnerable members of your community.  Perhaps you have an idea for setting up a volunteer group in your community?

If you do, please contact our project support officers on 01305 368908 or 368053.
