Freedom of Information requests

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides clear statutory rights for those requesting information. Under the terms of the Act, any member of the public is able to apply for access to information held by bodies across the public sector.

There is a duty imposed on public authorities to adopt a scheme for the publication of information. The schemes, which must be approved by the Commissioner, will specify the classes of information the authority intends to publish, the manner of publication and whether the information is available to the public free of charge or on payment of a fee.

About the publication scheme

The aim of a Publication Scheme is to explain what information NHS Dorset makes available to the public, and wherever possible provides an easy method of accessing this information. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, every public authority has a duty to specify what information they publish (in terms of information 'classes'), how the information is made available, and whether it is available free of charge or upon payment.

We will endeavour to provide information free of charge unless stated otherwise.

As well as describing the Classes of Information, our Publication Scheme allows you to browse to see what information is available. Having found reference to an information item, you will then be able to access it through this web-site. Where direct access is not possible our Publication Scheme Coordinator will be pleased to help you.
