Strategy and planning

In 2009, we published the Strategic Framework for Improving Health in Dorset 2009 to 2012.

Before publishing the document we consulted widely with our partners, stakeholders, service users and the public.

The strategic framework was refreshed and updated the following year to cover the period 2010 to 2014.

The strategy aims to support everyone to look after their own health by preventing illness and promoting healthier lifestyles, targeting in particular those in greatest need.

NHS Dorset has four strategic goals:

1. Helping you live a longer and healthier life
2. Delivering care when and where you need it
3. Care delivered in a way that you would expect
4. Achieving best value for money for you and your community

These goals are supported by six programmes containing a number of initiatives ranging from care of mums-to-be and then their babies through to the care at the end of life.
