Accommodation Based Support for Adults with Mental Health Needs

NHS Dorset is seeking to contract with a suitably qualified and experienced provider for the provision of a recovery house service. The Recovery House Programme is intended for mental health service users in acute mental health crisis who require stable, supported environment on a very short-term basis in a community settling.

The changes will bring new and additional choice for mental health service users.

  • Provide an alternative to statutory services within a homely and safe environment
  • An holistic, non-judgemental, non-directive, empathic and respectful service to all guests and callers
  • This will lead to better outcomes of people suffering from acute mental health crisis by speeding up there recovery, by supporting guests to recognise and develop their own strategies for crisis prevention and management
  • This model of care will decrease stigma and discrimination, so leading to an improved quality of life for people in acute mental health crisis.
  • This will reduce the number of admissions to acute mental health inpatient wards
  • Service users in acute mental health crisis in the future could use personal health budgets to pay for their stay in the recovery house, instead of admission to an acute mental health inpatient unit
  • Provide services to those seeking to prevent the onset or escalation of an acute mental health crisis

The service will support guests to begin to gain, re-learn or maintain life skills in order to carry out day to day tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, budgeting and paperwork.

This support will be identified by a comprehensive needs and risk assessment. The Recovery plan involving the guest shall be subject to daily review.
